In our Humanities class, we read a book called 451 Fahrenheit. We learned what the future may look like and thought about how the Socrates method is used in everyday life. Socrates method was to question someones original statement until the statement is no longer true. In our video, we chose to discuss the trust that people put on the government, and how there is denial from these people when there is a possibility that something is true. We have one person making another question their trust on the government. We brought up topics like the California wildfire that happened in the U.S.
We experimented with the Socratic method to see how it can relate to the banning of books. Discussing something controversial is what is disliked by a majority. The Socratic method is considered dangerous because a conflict arises from arguing. Some believe that it is better for the public to not worry about things that can be hurtful. People can be offended or confused by the Socratic method because they are forced to think away from their comfortable and secure space. If the Socratic method was practiced more often, everyone in the world could be a little wiser, but there is a risk of violence. Please enjoy the video below!
